You’ve probably heard the name NVIDIA — or maybe seen the ticker NVDA flashing across a finance app. Over the past year, it’s been getting a lot of attention in tech circles, especially with all the AI hype. Now that the buzz is settling in mid-2025, many are wondering if NVIDIA’s hype is fading or if the stock still has gas left.

Let’s dig into what’s happening with NVDA today, what’s driving the price, and what you should consider before buying.

1. A Year of Big Gains, but Signs of Cool-Down?

Over the past year, NVIDIA’s share price has more than doubled. That’s right — it shot up over 120%, thanks largely to the huge interest in artificial intelligence. From powering massive AI models to building GPUs for data centers, NVIDIA is right in the middle of it all.

In early July, NVDA hit a new high — about $1,625 per share. But shortly after, the stock dipped around 5%. Was it just some profit-taking? Or a signal that the hype is slowing? It might just be a temporary dip — or a hint of what’s coming next. Definitely keep it on your radar.

2. Earnings Still Impressing the Street

NVIDIA’s recent earnings report (Q2 FY2026) was another home run. Here are the highlights:

  • Revenue: $46.2 billion – up 73% from last year
  • Net income: $19.7 billion
  • Data center revenue: $30.1 billion – up a whopping 111%

NVIDIA’s earnings per share came in at $5.65, comfortably ahead of Wall Street’s estimate of $5.12. After the results, CEO Jensen Huang said there’s still strong momentum behind their latest Blackwell chips. Big names like AWS, Meta, and even Microsoft are already putting them to use.

3. AI Isn’t Slowing Down Yet

While some say AI is a bubble, real-world adoption tells a different story. Businesses and governments are pouring billions into AI infrastructure — and they need NVIDIA to make it all work.

From driverless cars and smart factories to real-time customer service bots, NVIDIA’s GPUs are the secret engine under the hood. Plus, with new laws in Europe and Asia, countries want to train AI models locally — and again, that’s good news for NVDA.

4. Another Stock Split Coming?

Last year, NVIDIA did a 10-for-1 stock split, which helped attract more small investors. Now that the price is above $1,600 again, there’s growing buzz about another split.

Although nothing’s been announced officially, companies often split shares when they get this high — and it’s usually a bullish sign.

5. What Could Go Wrong?

No stock is without risk, and NVIDIA has a few:

  • China Trouble: U.S. export rules still block some top-end chips from being sold to China. That’s a huge market, and these restrictions definitely hurt.
  • Let’s be honest — NVDA’s price tag isn’t for the faint-hearted. With a forward P/E ratio above 60, it’s definitely trading at a premium. Some might even call it expensive.

6. What Do Analysts Think?

Most Wall Street experts still like NVDA, but some are cautious due to the high valuation.

  • Goldman Sachs expects it could reach $1,800 — a clear “Buy.”
  • Morgan Stanley rates it “Overweight” with a target of $1,725.
  • Barclays, however, suggests a “Hold” rating, citing concerns about the high valuation.

Final Thoughts: Is NVDA a Good Buy Right Now?

If you believe AI is still in its early stages — and many do — then NVIDIA remains one of the strongest players to bet on. Its tech is unmatched, and its leadership has a strong track record.

That said, buying near the peak always carries risks. Long-term investors might wait for small pullbacks before entering, while short-term traders should look for clear momentum signals.

Honestly, calling NVIDIA a chip company doesn’t even cut it anymore. It’s become a key player in shaping how AI is evolving worldwide.
